The Potters’ Sacrifice
Godric’s Hollow • October 31, 1981 • The night that changed the wizarding world forever
The Night at Godric’s Hollow:
Voldemort arrived at the Potters’ cottage after Peter Pettigrew betrayed them as their Secret-Keeper. James faced Voldemort wandless, buying Lily precious seconds to flee upstairs with baby Harry.
Lily was given the choice to step aside, but refused. Her deliberate sacrifice — choosing death over abandoning her son — invoked an ancient magic that Voldemort never understood.
When the Killing Curse rebounded, it destroyed Voldemort’s body and left Harry with only a lightning-bolt scar — the mark of a failed curse and a mother’s love.
