The type of mint grown on the Summerdown Estate in Hampshire is Black Mitcham Peppermint, a strain that was prevalent in England 100 years ago, but until the founder of Summerdown Mint brought back a few cuttings from America in 1995, had all but died out. This special type of peppermint has a pure, invigorating taste and aroma, quite different to anything you’ll have tried before. What started as an experiment with a field of plants the size of a tennis court is now a thriving business, with over 100 acres of English peppermint growing in idyllic Hampshire countryside.
Summerdown Mint transforms the vibrant green peppermint leaves into an astonishingly aromatic, barrel-aged peppermint oil, which plays the starring role in all their award-winning chocolates. While most of Summerdown Mint chocolates are combined with dark chocolate, the Mint Truffles have a creamy milk chocolate centre.
